curiosity, openness, and commitment to help people walk more fully into their lives

Widening Circles Therapy aspires to move toward the alleviation of human suffering and building well-being. I both respect the audacity of that goal and strive toward it each day in my therapeutic work.

My name is Steven Topper, and I’ve been working in this field for approximately 10 years. I am accepting new in-person clients in Colorado Springs in the downtown area. As I am working toward becoming credentialed with insurance companies, I am currently in-network with United, Aetna, and Cigna and offer out-of-network as well.

In working with clients, I intend to provide empirically supported care that is rooted in three key concepts

  • Every life is different, every life has suffering. I aim to help explore with you what works best in your life. None of us is exempt from pain. This perspective supports the notion that you haven’t failed and aren’t broken

  • The most important part of the process is your experience. My goal is to make the environment safe, warm, and empowering so that we can identify how you can live most meaningfully

  • What works in the short term doesn’t always work in the long term. Sustained, meaningful change doesn’t occur without some discomfort. We can choose to meet that discomfort right at the door rather than lock ourselves away each time it knocks. The therapy process can be challenging and uncomfortable. I hold deep respect and admiration for that discomfort

Fundamentally, I believe in the rich complexity of a human being and appreciate how challenging and distressing life can be. I strive to bring compassion, curiosity, and openness to everyone I work alongside so that they can create rich and poignant lives.
